About Us

The Bead People International, Inc.

Spreading a little Peace around the world!
Population:  5000 Bead People in 10 countries

The Bead People is a peace project which began in Rapid City, SD and has since spread to ten nations around the world.  The project includes crafting small, thumbsized people out of beads and sharing their story, The Wind of a Thousand Years.  As the story manifesto states, we will learn to "Never harm another because he or she is different from me".  The story and the project were created by author and educator, Patricia Jamie Lee.

The mission of the project is to make The Bead People a symbol of peace within the global family and to create opportunities to learn more about one another. Bead People Projects are being done in schools, with scouts, in adult conferences, at festivals, and many other places.  People of all ages connect to the project and donate their beads, time and donations to further the movement.

In late 2008, the organization incorporated and became a nonprofit in South Dakota with 501 (c) 3 status pending.  This changed status allows the organization to invite others to get involved, seek donations, and create additional curriculum materials to be used by teachers, youth group leaders, and others.
